BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ION Engineering, a leading carbon capture technology company, today announced a research collaboration with the Trondheim, Norway based research organization SINTEF (The Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research), the largest Scandinavian research organization.
The collaborative project will focus on the design, construction and demonstration of real-time online analysis of ION’s solvent used in carbon dioxide (CO2) capture. Once developed, the real-time online analysis tool will create improved controls over solvent based CO2 capture process and improve the efficiency of ION’s solvent technology.
The project received approval for funding through CLIMIT-Demo (http://www.climit.no/en) which is the Norwegian national program for research, development and demonstration of technology for CO2 capture, transport and storage technologies for power generation and other industrial sources. Collaboration with organizations such as CLIMIT & SINTEF demonstrates ION’s commitment to increase its international presence, potential product offerings and expand ION’s position as a leading carbon capture company.
In October, ION successfully completed pilot scale testing of its proprietary solvent and process technology for the removal of carbon dioxide (CO2) from large point sources including natural gas and coal-fired power plants. Throughout testing, ION captured over 99% of the incoming CO2, while maintaining stable process operation and meeting project objectives.
About ION Engineering
ION Engineering is developing carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technology that outperforms other available technologies while reducing overall costs to make CO2 capture a more viable option than it is currently. The Company is commercializing novel, proprietary solvent and process technology for removal of CO2 from large point sources including natural gas and coal-fired power plants more efficiently than current commercial solutions. ION is currently working with local and global partners to test its carbon capture technology in commercial settings. The Company’s solvent and process technology has successfully completed the first of three progressive levels of commercial-scale testing on the Company’s planned path to full-scale commercialization.
